I’m very excited to share the Dr. Hippo series with you today, from the Hippocratic Press. Founded by Dr. Charlotte Cowan.
I am a believer that a child needs books in their lives. In our house that happens to be many many books, overflowing the bookshelves. Which is fine, we read at least 1 hr daily with the kids. Maybe it’s because both my husband and I are very avid readers and wish the same for our children? I am the
aunt, friend or family member that will buy you a book for almost every occasion.
The entire family was delighted when the Dr. Hippo series arrived at our door. Ryan and I ripped open opened the box very carefully to find that they were very well protected in paper packing. The books are made with beautiful hard covers and a sleeve over the hard cover. There is a parent insert in each book including questions, answers and information pertaining to the particular illness covered in the story. Each parent insert is laminated and quite durable, as we found out. Olivia got a hold of one, dragged it down to her room, chewed on it, and it is still in perfect condition.
Ryan insisted that we read each book the very evening we received them, so we did, and LOVED them. The books, The Moose With Loose Poops, The Little Elephant with the Big Earache, Katie Caught a Cold, Peeper has a Fever and Sadies Sore throat all have fascinating, colorful illustrations. I love how they put each illness into terms that a child, even as young as Ryan at 4, can understand. They held Ryan’s complete interest and he had many questions to ask along the way, which were all answered within the story. We have since read these stories over and over, and will continue to do so.
Dr. Charlotte Cowan, the author and founder of The Hippocratric Press trained and practiced at Bostons Mass General Hospital for Children for many years. While in college at Princeton University, Dr. Charlotte Cowan majored in English and developed a love for creative writing. I find it so fascinating how she was able to combine her medical and English training to write childrens stories that pertain to illnesses that are quite common.
I have been fortunate in that I’ve been personally corresponding with Dr. Cowan. I was thrilled to find out that she shares a love for Birthday Parties as I do! Whenever a Birthday Party was held in her home she made sure that each person had a gift, not just the Birthday girl or boy! Charlotte is married to a wonderful man and together they have 3 children.
