From here to there, we made it far Olive! I’m so very proud.
The habit is dying hard for mama though. Not just any old habit either, a bond between a mother and a daughter that I feel so fortunate to have been able to experience for as long as I did. I nursed Olivia for 11 months and 25 days. Of that time she was exclusively nursing without any other foods for 7 months. My goal was to make it to her 1st Birthday, this upcoming Friday but she had other plans. We had a big weekend this past weekend and maybe it was all of the excitement, but she, as of last night, decided she was done.
We’ve been slowly nursing less for the last couple of months now with the addition of new solids, etc. She was down to just nursing before bed, in addition to nursing she takes Horizon’s organic whole milk which is what her pediatrician recommended with her being so close to age 1.
I’m happy that it was she who decided and that I did not have to make her stop. I really did want it to be her decision. I’m just a little emotional because I don’t know if this is my last baby and well, it was just such a special bond, I wasn’t quite ready to let it go. I suppose I’ll have to squeeze in some extra snuggles before bed now!

[...] has indeed been a big week or two around here, if you read this post or this post you’ll see where it all started. Now to top it off, my little girl is 1, my baby [...]
You did a great job nursing as long as you did. I wasn’t able to nurse so long with either of my two children due to complications. I think it is wonderful that you did such a great job and you should be proud! I do agree that it is hard letting go though…I felt the same way.
Oh, I remember feeling exactly the same with my youngest when he weaned himself at 11 months. I was a wreck b/c I knew he was my last and I’m one of the nutty people who loved nursing. But, so many exciting new things for you to still to enjoy together. And, thanks for visiting my spot; we love new friends:)
Way to go on nursing for so long!
I can’t believe Olivia will be one on Friday!!! Time is just going by way too fast.
Hello, I’m part of the MBC Follow Me Club! Nice to “meet” you. Thanks for following me, now I’m following you back =)
You did a great job mommy!
Congratulations on making it so long. I remember being so sad when my oldest stopped at 13 months since that was the only time she would cuddle. My youngest just turned 1 today and I don`t even want to think about her weaning right now.
Thank you for following me!

SO EXCITING HUH??
Congrats on nursing so long. I have very similar feeling about nursing my daughter who is 6 months. I think I’m going to let her decide when we’re done because I think she’s my last baby.
Congrats Tara on making it so far! It is wonderful that you got to nurse her til she decided she was done!
