This Should be Interesting

3 Comments 24 June 2009

back soon post-it Pictures, Images and PhotosThis is me hanging up my “Be Back Soon” sign. I’m outta here for a couple days, 5 to be exact.

We’re going camping, about 6-7 hours south of where I live. I have always loved to camp, but regret to say that I have not gone once since my kiddos entered the picture. I’m more excited than I am nervous, but nervous all the same. It’s supposed to be in the high 80’s all weekend with the nights not cooling off much, it will make for some very warm sleeping arrangements as we are doing this the old fashioned way, in a tent. _MG_5479Yep, you see that tent? That tent is the one that we’ll be living in for a few days.

Really though, it should be fun. A lot of Rob’s family is going to be there that we’re lucky to see once a year. It’s a family reunion of sorts and will be nice to see everyone. Even if it is hotter than haities and I’m sweating my rear off!

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! I’ll be back Monday with some fun giveaways!

One way I like to show those I care about my appreciation for them is by sending them e-cards. What’s even better? These ones are free. Got Free E-cards has a very large assortment to choose from as well. I can send my best friend this witty Free Birthday E-card when her birthday rolls around later this summer or I could send this lovey dovey E-card to my hubby while he is at work. You have your choice of Birthday, Love, Get Well Soon or Editors choice. Within each category is even more to choose from such as Fathers Day in the Love section. You can also find Knock Knock E-cards or Friendship E-cards. There really is something for everyone.

1245153930I also appreciate the Free Printable E-cards they offer. Sometimes it is more personable to actually hand the card to the person you care about. I thought the card to the left was cute for our upcoming Holiday of Independence Day. Along with the Free E-cards and Free Printable cards you can also create a Free photo card.

You can personalize every single item to your liking. You can also set up a Birthday Reminder or any reminder for a Holiday that you are known for forgetting. For me, I’m all over the Birthday Reminder.

Got Free E-cards also have a blog and twitter account, so get connected and send your Free E-card today!

I am participating in “Jump Start Your Blog Contest”  sponsored by got-free-ecards and momdot

Solar Car Kit-Review and Giveaway CLOSED

Untitled-1I recently had the opportunity to sit in on a conference call with Dave Lettero from Bonneville Environmental Foundation, otherwise known as BEF. During the conference call I learned a lot about renewable energy while he touched on small things that we can do every day to help shrink our carbon footprint.
He talked about fun activities that you can do at home, as a family, such as building a solar oven, a solar cell and a solar car. He shared with us how to bake cookies in the solar over and melt broken crayons to make a new larger crayon in the solar oven. BEF was kind enough to send us a Solar Car Kit to make ourselves. This was such an awesome bonding and learning experience for my 4 year old. The car took us nearly 30 minutes to put together, and each step of the way Ryan had a ton of questions. I have a little footage here:
Ryan was amazed at the cars ability to run while in the sunlight and what made it even better was that he built this car himself (with my help). It was awesome to see how proud he was. He has since attached various figurines to take a little ride on the solar car.
Here is a little about BEF from their website at b-e-f.org:
“Founded in Portland, Oregon in 1998, BEF is a national, nonprofit organization. One of our proudest achievements to date has been our role in the development of the carbon offset market. In 2000, we helped to create the voluntary market for carbon offsets by closing the first retail REC trade deal with the Environmental Protection Agency. We also launched the first online carbon calculator in 2001. In 2008, our retail Green Tags were renamed BEF Carbon Offsets to meet the naming conventions of the Green-e® Climate program. All of our Carbon Offset products are Green-e® Climate certified, the highest certification possible. With BEF Carbon Offsets, organizations and individuals are able to dedicate funds to the development of renewable energy sources like solar power and wind farms. And this in turn, helps us reduce the carbon footprints we leave behind.”

You can find much more information on their website such as using their carbon calculator to find out how big or small your carbon footprint is. There is an education area that is fun to explore with your children. You can find much more where this all came from, head to their website and look around!

To Win!!

BEF has generously offered one Through Hazel Eyes reader the chance to win their very own Solar Car Kit to put together with their family! I promise you will love this activity!

To enter head to their website and tell me what you have learned in the comments.

My Tot Clock-Review and Giveaway CLOSED

Untitled-1Do you have a child that is toddler to school age who wakes up too early or goes to bed too late? Do you know somebody with a child who matches this criteria? Maybe you just need a really awesome clock for a special kid in your life? I have the answer to all of your clock needs when it comes to children. I kid you not, My Tot Clock has changed our quality of life around here.
We’ve been using My Tot Clock for around 1-2 months now. We set it up the day it arrived and my 4 year old has been sleeping like a champion ever since. There are 5 different settings, or color coded buttons used for:
  • Sleeping
  • Waking
  • Discipline
  • Encourage
  • Nap Time

We have his bed time and wake time automatically set for when we would prefer him to go to sleep at 8:30 turning the face a darker blue and his wake time at 7:30 when the face turns yellow. The discipline button is set for 5 minutes, which is the duration of Ryan’s timeouts and the face is red during this time. Ryan does not nap anymore, however we do “quiet time” in the afternoons for 2 hours and at this time the clock is light blue.

This has created a phenomenal routine for us and more importantly for Ryan. In fact by the third night we were using it Ryan was kicking us out of his room after stories because his lullabies were starting! You can use batteries in My Tot Clock as well, so we’ve been able to travel with it, making travel 100% easier. We will be purchasing My Tot Clock for Olivia too.
What’s really cool, and what really drew Ryan to it immediately are the lullabies that can start automatically at bedtime. You can set it for no lullabies, lullabies with white noise following, just lullabies, or stories. Ryan’s favorite setting is the lullabies with white noise following. If he doesn’t fall asleep before the lullabies are complete (which is unusual) he gets up and switches the stories on. He has become more independent in his bedtime routine, thank you to My Tot Clock.
Here is a short video of Ryan talking about his My Tot Clock:
Mom Approved? Absolutely!! No question. I had a little difficulty in the beginning, but it was my fault. I tried setting it up using no instructions, it only took me a minute to realize that I was indeed going to need them to make sure it was running just right. As long as you follow the instructions it’s smooth sailing.
The other part I love about this clock is that the front of it is not digital. This has helped Ryan recognize what time it actually is, and how to tell time on a regular ol’ clock. There is a digital clock on the back additionally.
To Buy My Tot Clock:
Visit My Tot Clocks shopping page. There you can purchase your My Tot Clock that comes with the precious “Night Sky” face plate for 49.95. There are also several choices of face plates if you feel like changing it up a little for just 9.95. In addition to that you can purchase new Tot Clock Treasures for 9.95 where you can find a variety of stories and lullabies in addition to the one that comes with the clock.

To Win!!

My Tot Clock has offered one lucky Through Hazel Eyes reader the chance to win their very own My Tot Clock at a value of 49.95.

To Enter:

I want to hear why you need more sleep. Tell me of your child (or a child you know) that is having a difficult time getting to bed or waking up too early.
