Sylvania Energy Saving Light Bulbs

Sylvania Energy Saving Light Bulbs

5 Comments 26 March 2010

SylvaniaI believe that people in general now are trying to find more ways to become eco-friendly. It’s not always easy, or inexpensive for that matter, but every little step counts. Once you make that initial investment it actually saves you money in the long run, and keeps our earth a little more healthy.

A frugal way to reduce your footprint can be achieved by using Energy-Saving Light Bulbs. Being that traditional incandescent light bulbs are being phased out, this is an easy band wagon to jump upon. You just need to choose what works for you. For me, Sylvania’s Halogen Super Saver light bulb is perfect. These keep the same familiar shape as your traditional light bulb, with some major differences economically.

I’ve found that these fit into every single light fixture we own. These bulbs are just as bright, and they last much longer. You heard me, it’s going to be a little less often that you’ll need to drag that ladder to the highest light fixture in your house to change out a light bulb. Not to mention the money you’ll save every year of using Energy Saving Light Bulbs.

The SYLVANIA halogen SUPERSAVER light bulb emits the same bright white light as regular incandescent bulbs, but uses up to 33% less energy (and no mercury). With a familiar shape and dimmable features, these bulbs can also fit easily into pre-existing accent lights, track lights, or other fixtures, making them a great transition lightbulb for busy Moms.

To Buy:

You can visit Sylvania’s Online Store , as well as local retailers near you at approximately $4.29/box of 2.

In this day and age I believe people in general have taken action to capture their memories. I also believe it is much easier now than it ever has been. I mean how many times have you heard the stories of the parents who just couldn’t afford to or get their hands on a camera for numerous reasons and as a result have close to zero pictures of their children? Now it’s pretty much standard to have one built right into your cell phone, not to mention much less expensive for a simple point and shoot or even a disposable. The issue though is that majority of cameras available and easy to use are digital, which in itself is really not an issue. The issue lies in the fact that we plug these images into our computer, flash drives, etc. and then we do nothing with them. Maybe post them to Facebook, email them and such, but print them and put them into an album? Not likely. I’m guilty of this, until now.

008

Another common story is one that comes usually from a parent that has more than one child. A family I know, for example, have a total of 3 children. The oldest has a completed baby book, first teeth and the whole works. The middle child has a partial and my husband? Not one at all. I’ve heard this story over and over again from so many families, am even guilty of this myself. I promised myself when Ryan was 14 months with a completed 1st year, handmade by myself, scrapbook that if he had any siblings I would do the same for them. No question. After Olivia was born I got as far as buying the same scrapbook for her as I had for Ryan, only in a different color. Now, Olivia is almost 2 and it sits empty in a drawer. We just get busy, it’s sad and true. Recently I’ve been able to somewhat clear my bad rep and say thank goodness for PhotoWorks.com.

Photo Works Studio has 4 themes to choose from. In this situation I of course chose “Baby”. You choose boy or girl, upload your pictures and voila! It really can be as easy or hard as you choose. It took me give or take 20 minutes total from start to finish. I uploaded my favorite photos from Olivia’s first year and chose the option for Photo Works to insert and choose the layout for me. Then I went through and sort of critiqued it and moved a couple photos around to spots I preferred. You have the option to choose how many images you want on one page as well as the background color and pattern. This is a hardcover book with your choice of photos on the front and rear covers as well as titles and descriptions for each photo.

I would also like to add how fabulous the customer service is. When it came time to check out for some reason my order was coming to $400 and some odd dollars. This was incorrect, so I called the number which is very accessible, and they had the issue fixed in no time. I received my “Olivia’s First Year” book in under 1 week. My husband and I are very pleased with the results. The colors are vibrant, the pages are sturdy and the images looked just as they had in the preview before I checked out. I have to say I feel a little guilty that I spent a fraction of the time on her book as I did on Ryan’s, but not too guilty, because at least I have something to show for all those hundreds of photos I took.

You can create your own Photo Works Studio book. Just head to Photoworks.com and click on Studio. If you’re in need of any other photo project, you will find a variety of photo gifts waiting for you to create as well!

Aden & Anais Original Swaddles Review and Giveaway

2022_280

Both of my children were born wanting to be swaddled. In fact, Olivia is almost 2 and will still let me swaddle and rock her before she goes to sleep. That’s probably not normal, but I’ll take any snuggle time I can get. I learned early on that those 30 x 30 receiving blankets you pick up from the discount department store do not work. Not to mention they always were incredibly wrinkly when I took them out of the dryer. I scoured for the perfect swaddling blanket and at the time was only able to find them 40 x 40. Now though, now that I’ve been introduced to Aden + Anais  my swaddling world has changed.

096

The Aden + Anais muslin swaddle is 47 in x 47 in and is made with 100% cotton muslin. These wraps are delicious. The generous size will allow the wrap to grow with your child. Like I said earlier, Olivia is almost 2 and I still swaddle her all up before bed. She has gotten to a point where she would rather not fall asleep if she does not have her muslin wrap in the crib with her. She also uses this to cover up in the car with and in the stroller. In addition to the size, the fabric is what will make me buy these swaddles over and over again. Not only the prints on the fabric, which are whimsical and unique, but the texture. They are completely breathable, soft and the open weave of the muslin allows your child’s body to regulate the temperature for what their body needs.

091

As a photographer, I would also like to point out that these can be useful. Nothing soothes an unhappy newborn like being swaddled. There are a variety of fabric prints that will make a perfect “swaddled baby pose”. The variety here gives you the ability to be creative.

There is not one thing that I would change, or can think of that should have been done differently. I feel relief knowing my baby is sleeping with something so breathable, in fact I believe I’ll be ordering her a dream blanket to keep right in her crib. I know that when I purchase from Aden + Anais my money is going towards quality, and could possibly help another in a time of need. Aden + Anais founded the Swaddle Love Foundation and supports a variety of organizations.

Every item Aden + Anais have to offer would make a perfect baby shower gift or a special gift to yourself and your new baby. You can find Sleeping Bags, Towel and Washcloth sets, Burby Bibs and more. Visit AdenandAnais.com to browse around. Currently they are offering Free Ground Shipping on orders totaling over $60.00.

Boba Baby Carrier

As the weather turns mild and balmy my favorite activities take place outdoors. We go for bike rides, play T-ball, hike, go for walks and more. When we moved into our house several years ago I loved the fact it was located in a slow, quiet cul-de-sac. However, when I want to go for a walk I want to walk a little further than our cul-de-sac offers, so I have to venture to the busy busy road that our Lane is off of. For me, that is fine, although I do not feel safe bringing the kids in strollers or walking by themselves. Wearing Olivia in a carrier is a safe alternative and allows which allows us closeness as well as the fresh air and a exercise for myself.

I’ve used probably every style out there as far as carriers go. Certain types suit different weights better than others and really what it boils down to is personal comfort for you and your child. Olivia is now heading toward 2 years of age and weighs just over 20 lbs. This limits our options somewhat. The hard pack carriers, you know the ones with the poles and such, are too big and bulky for me to handle on my own. That leaves the option of a soft, made from fabric carrier. I need  this carrier to be made so that I can take it on, put Olivia in and take it off by myself. Boba Organic has created the perfect carrier that meets all of my needs and more. I can wear her on the front or back, use it all by myself and it is comfortable for both Olivia and I.

060061055

My favorite feature that sets this carrier apart from every other I’ve seen and used are the foot straps. I cannot stress how insanely nice these are for the child. I couldn’t pinpoint what was missing from previous carriers, but these foot straps have made a world of a difference for my little Olivia. In fact, the first thing she says after we get all strapped in is “feet”. Then she sticks them out so I can help guide each foot to it’s strap, making her one happy camper.

Mom (and Dad) approved? Yes! Absolutely. Our favorite specifications:

  • The color we received is the Cedar, this is perfect for mom or dad to wear the child around in. Although I noticed all of the colors are gender friendly, earthy, warm tones that I think anyone would be pleased with.
  • The ease, enough said. I can get it on and her packed up in under 1 minute.
  • How much Olivia adore “being worn” in it.
  • The fact that I can “wear her” until she is 45 lbs or around 4 years old.
  • It fits in the diaper back, or just about anywhere for that matter. Being that it is made of cloth mostly, it fold right up to go along with you wherever you are headed!

To Buy:

Visit BobaBabyCarrier.com and have a look around. Here is the selection of colors, you can also find instructional videos, testimonials, galleries and more. With spring and summer right around the corner this is surely something you will want to have on hand for your little ones!
