Holey Donuts! On a Diet? and a Giveaway

4 Comments 04 December 2009

IMG_8783Yep, you read that title correctly. Now, I’m not on a diet, but I try to watch what I eat, and I do not keep sweets in the house. Are you wondering why? Because I will eat them all. The rest of my family can take it or leave it when it comes to sweets, but I take it all. In fact there are only two types of sweet food that my husband will eat, Donuts and Cheesecake and he is very particular when it comes to the taste of each.

When I was recently offered the opportunity to review 3 different types of Cinnamon Buns from Holey Donuts!, he rolled his eyes and didn’t think twice about it. When they arrived, very promptly I might add, my mouth was watering and he was defiant on trying one because they are so low in fat. He is not a diety kind of guy. I’m going to say hands down, the Reduced Fat Blueberry Vanilla Cinnamon Bun is the best Cinnamon Bun I’ve ever had. The Jumbo Reduced Fat Cinnamon Buns and Low Fat Cinnamon Bun Middles were also extremely delicious. My husband finally came around after watching me devour one and by the time we were down to one left we were arguing over who would get the last.

While the taste is outstanding, I would like to tell you what else makes these even more unique.  They are handmade, they are then shipped to you frozen on dry ice to preserve the fresh homemade taste. They are low in fat and calories, 1 Cinnamon Middle contains only 100 calories and 1 gram of fat. That is almost unheard of anymore.

Would you like a chance to win your own prize pack including all of the same Cinnamon Buns I received:

1- Full box of Jumbo Low Fat Cinnamon Buns (4)
1- Full box of Our Awesome Jumbo Low Fat Blueberry Vanilla Buns (4)
1- Full box of Holey Donuts! Low Fat Cinnamon Bun Middles (16)

+$150 Holiday spending cash!

To enter send an email to info@holeydonuts.net and enter Through Hazel Eyes in the subject line. Then just let them know you’d like to win the prize pack mentioned here! The winner will be announced on December 15.

Holiday Gift Idea-Robeez

_MG_8884In most areas the weather is cooling down, or becoming down right frigid if you live in the same region I do. Our high today was 37 degrees. It is essential during these winter months that my husband and I do everything in our power to keep our family warm. The heat bill inevitably always goes up and we always makes sure our shoes and clothing are properly insulated. Inside and outside of the house. Wondering what I’m getting at will of this cold talk? Robeez, soft soled shoes for babies. Robeez have expanded since my first child was a baby 5 years ago and have Mini Shoez, Tredz and Booties now too. Making them the perfect gift selection for the children in your life!

You can imagine my excitement when I was offered the chance to share Robeez Holiday Gift Guide with you all and review a pair of the soft soled booties in Pastel Pink. I was only slightly hestitant about putting a pair of soft soled shoes on a wild 18 month old, but it turns out these are the perfect soloution to a lot of problems. First, I don’t know about you, but we do a lot of traveling this time of year. Anywhere from 30 minute to 5 hour road trips one way. The last thing Olivia is going to want to wear while on a long car ride is a pair of bulky boots. In the house on our hard wood floors? Well, slippers don’t stay on her teeny feet, but these sure do!I can honestly tell you that the majority of Olivia’s day since we have recieved them has been spent in her Robeez.

Holiday Gift Idea-K’NEX (and a contest)

No Comments 25 November 2009

You cannot go wrong with K’Nex. They are suitable for both boys and girls, and they have sets starting for little ones at age 2 on up. My husband still plays with them so there is no limit! The possibilities are literally endless on the creations your child is able to make letting their imaginations soar!

IMG_8758IMG_8760

We started buying Kid K’Nex for Ryan on his 3rd Birthday. Since then we have been adding on to his K’Nex and I think we actually own every Kid K’Nex set available. He still pulls out the box a couple time a week and it’s been 2 years. He is also still asking for additional K’Nex from Santa. He builds something new every time. Olivia is still a little young for some of the pieces included in his current sets, but she adores the Sesame Street set and has been walking around with “Melmo” (Elmo) ever since it arrived on our doorstep.

IMG_8851For your older child, ages 7 and up a good starter set would be the 400 Piece tub including 20 building ideas. Let me remind you though, these are ideas that they include which are fun, but you know what’s even better? Watching your child use his or her imagination to build the craziest helicopter out of K’Nex that you’ve ever seen and that look of pride on their face upon completion.

I’ll say it again, you just cannot go wrong with a set of K’Nex. K’Nex is that one of a kind toy that inpires creativity, builds self confidence and encourages interaction. I believe K’Nex will be that classic toy that our children our still buying for their children and so on.

To Buy:

The Neigborhood Collection Police Car building set is available from local retailers for 10.99. The 400 Piece Tub is available from local retailers for jus 21.99.

Contest!

Now you have the chance to win over $1,000 worth of K’NEX Toys and be featured on the KNEX.com web site.  How? Make a video and include select K’NEX products. The possibilities are endless. Construct your own story or showcase your child’s K’NEX building skills – use your imagination!

The 10 best videos will be featured on KNEX.com and the winning video will receive $1,000 worth of K’NEX Toys.

Go here for more information. Or head to the K’Nex website.

Holiday Gift Idea-Tiddle Diddle Shoes

No Comments 19 November 2009

With the cold months starting in full swing something very important to me is keeping mine and my kid’s cold feet warm and comfortable. Around the house, in the car, you name it. The last thing I’m going to make my kids wear around the house on our hard wood floors or traveling for hours in a car is a pair of bulky boots.

I’ve recently been introduced to Tiddle Diddle-a handmade shoppe for baby’s (and toddlers). Here you can find the perfect little pair of handmade shoes for your little boy or girl as well as several other handmade items that make the perfect gift. My children with my help each reviewed a pair of shoes.

_MG_7875_MG_7878_MG_7877

Now first I will tell you and to me this is a good thing, the sizes run a little big. There is elastic in the ankle portion so you do not have to worry about them falling off of little feet, the larger size just gives them a little room to grow. For Olivia who is 17 months and wears a size 4.5 we received a size 6-12 month shoe. I was hesitant with Ryan because the sizes go up to a 2.5-3 year old and Ryan is 5. I decided to give it a shot these being these are soft soled, and they fit. He normally wears a size 12 in most shoes. Now these were not loose on him, but they did work. Ryan loves his. He said “These are comfy and warm.” Olivia is very comfortable in hers and they both wear them around the house on a regular basis. The fabric is top notch, easy to clean, and a nice color that coordinates with just about anything.

_MG_7883_MG_7874_MG_7898

The shoes come in a nice pouch, that can be reused. Ryan stores crayons in his that he takes on car rides, and I like to keep small stuff separate in our diaper bag with the pouch that came with Olivia’s.

You can also find adorable aprons for that budding chef in your home, gift sets including a bib, burp cloth and booties, and more. I can assure you that you will be pleased with the quality.

Thomas Wooden Railway with Learning Curve

No Comments 11 November 2009

To me, Thomas and his friends of Sodor are simply classic. My brother used to have a Wooden Thomas the Train set that we put hours and hours of play time into. Now, 20 years later, Thomas is still around with even more to offer.

When the opportunity arose to review the Thomas Wooden Railway Talking Railway Series Farewell at the Docks set, I thought this would be the perfectlove Christmas gift for my son. Or even my son and daughter combined. I was going to test it out myself to share with you all until Christmas. Instead, I couldn’t stand the anticipation of them opening it and trying it themselves, so much to my kids’ enjoyment we put it together the night it arrived. They it. I decided what I am going to do instead is purchase more pieces and have a giant track set up around the Christmas Tree Christmas morning, courtesy of  Ol’ St. Nick.

_MG_8059_MG_8056

On to our thoughts. First, I would like to say that this toy is not recommended for children under 3, and many of you know that my daughter is under 3. She is 17 months. We do not let her play with this unsupervised. When we are with her however she has just as much fun as Ryan does driving the trains around the track and filling and un-filling the “Party Supplies” or cargo.  Ryan has enjoyed creating several different shaped tracks and he loves using the crank on “Cranky” to load and unload the cargo which in this set happens to be “Party Supplies”.  As Thomas or Spencer travel past Cranky and Sir Topham Hatts’ station the child can push the button where Sir Topham Hatt will recognize each engine.

_MG_8054

_MG_8053From a moms’ perspective I love that not only does this let their imaginations soar but it is excellent for the hand eye coordination. I watched Ryan piece together the tracks in a fashion that still makes it go around and watched Olivia put the cargo in the trailer just so. I love that it’s not too noisy and they use their own words when pretending to be one of trains. I love that it completely comes apart not only for the set to be put away nicely but for a fresh start the next day.

For more information you can view this set and other fabulous educational but fun toys at Learning Curve. There you will find further details in general and where to purchase.
